This xlr to 1/4 quarter inch cable is used to output a balanced/unbalanced audio signal from a 1/4" port to a xlr input device. Output devices include a mixer, DJ controller, podcast, keyboard, electronic drum, etc. These devices usually have 1/4" balanced/unbalanced output ports, traditionally marked with central out, control room, FX send, Master out, Sub out, Stereo out, Stereo return, etc. Input devices are usually powered speakers, studio monitors, interfaces, AMPs, etc.

This stereo-balanced TRS cable can be used on an unbalanced 1/4" mono TS port; please don't worry. The only issue is that you still only get unbalanced output. Please only use powered speakers for speaker connection, as passive speakers will need a preamp before playing the sound. Please do not use to connect guitar to xlr mic input, due to mis-match impedance, your device will not receive the guitar signal.
